EFS projects at Woodhill School
School Orchards
This has been started with the planting of the first two fruit trees; figs! We are looking for more fruit trees of all kinds from the community to expand this. If you can help, leave a messege with Ms. Simpson in the office or contact Mr. Meadows and the EFS team.
Class Veggie Gardens
The EFS team is keen for evey class to learn about growing their own vegetables and how to feed the soil so it can feed us. They have proposed the construction of a raised bed for each classroom to use to be built off the retaining wall behind the upstairs classrooms.
We are looking for:
Timber - Idealy a total of around 42 rough sawn 150x19 fence palings 2.4m long, 8 x 2.4m 100x100 posts and some smooth dressed timber to create seating on top.
Compost, well rotted stable manure or clean topsoil to fill the beds with.
If you can help, leave a messege with Ms. Simpson in the office or contact Mr. Meadows and the EFS team,
Native Bird and Insect Garden
As a part of creating a future that we can all be proud of, the EFS team believe that Woodhill school should have a garden planted specificaly to attract native birds and insects to our school.
We would be delighted to have help obtaining, growing and planting plants like pohutukawa, native bottle brush, rewa-rewa, rata, kowhai, puriri, flaxes etc.
If any of these plants have traditional uses, we would also love to have the guidence to create plaques in the garden explaining these to emphasise the importance of the land and what it produces to all people.
If you can help, leave a messege with Ms. Simpson in the office or contact Mr. Meadows and the EFS team,
